Thank you for reading my first ever blog. This blog experiment is prompted by a class on social media that I am taking through Purdue Global. This is a week of firsts. In addition to this blog, I also made my first podcast. It is yet to be determined if there will be any further podcasts, or blogs! To learn, we must become uncomfortable, so I am diving in.
I am so impressed by the creative work of my classmates. They have made podcasts on a variety of topics. They are inspiring, challenging, informative, and heartwarming.
I chose 2 of the podcasts to consider and reflect on. Listening to them, I started thinking about how pop culture connects people.
A couple of the podcasts mentioned entertainment, particularly television shows. Bri was actually discussing dating during COVID19. She suggested watching a movie or tv show together via Zoom, for example. I would not have thought about this, but I agree this would provide a topic for discussion, just as if they were at the theater together. Enis told how he and a group of friends are discussing a podcast. The podcast happens to be about a show that his group of friends used to watch together every week (when you had to see it at the time it showed, or you missed it.) It has turned out to be a fun way for the group to reminisce and maintain their connection even though they are spread out across the globe.
This got me thinking about the changes in how we get our entertainment, be it television or movies. Then I started thinking that even though a lot has changed, it still is something that connects us. A silly show doesn't connect us in a deep way, but the shared experience may help us connect and learn about each other and form meaningful relationships. I remember spending time with friends for "Friday night TV" during college. I think they had cable! I don't happen to remember what we watched, but my husband likely does. I just remember that we enjoyed being together and sharing the experience. Connections!
I agree about pop culture creating connections! I love to watch reruns of Friends and remember watching them (when they first aired) with my cousin and roommate. I can't watch the movie Elf without quoting my favorite lines that my friends and I like to post on each other's Facebook timelines. They might be silly but the shared experience is what's important! Great point!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading, Kim! Sounds like you and your friends have fun and brighten each others' day with the Elf quotes. Love it!
